PACB Memo to PA Congressional Delegation
To: Members of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation
From: Frank A. Pinto, President/CEO
Subject: Cosponsorship of Communities First Act
Date: May 4, 2005
On behalf of the PACB Board of Directors, I am writing to urge you to cosponsor legislation introduced by Rep. Jim Ryun, the Communities First Act (H.R. 2061).
This legislation is a top priority for PACB and community banks and provides targeted regulatory relief and tax reform for community banks and their customers.
As you know, unfair competition from the mega credit unions is a serious concern for our industry. We are hopeful that introduction and consideration of H.R. 2061 will provide a positive approach for the Congress to enact to help level the playing field between the mega, tax-exempt credit unions and qualified community banks.
I am faxing you a press release from one of our two national trade associations, Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) that provides more detail on the provisions of the Communities First Act.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact PACB, ICBA or Nathanael Bennett in Rep. Jim Ryun’s office, 202-225-2601.
Again, we urge your cosponsorship of this important legislation and stand ready to assist you on this and other issues affecting our industry.
Thanks so much.
Cc: ICBA
