Bank Robbery Legislation

Subject: Senate Judiciary Committee Approval of Senate Bill 957 – Bank Robbery Legislation

Date: December 13, 2005

I am pleased to report to you that the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Senate Bill 957 this morning, legislation to strengthen the penalties against bank robbery. All but three senators voted for the proposal. The negative votes occurred from members who have philosophical concerns to carving out bank robbery as a separate offense or believe the penalties in the legislation (a felony of the first degree) are “too high.”

We will continue working to educate members of the Senate on why Pennsylvania needs to strengthen its laws on bank robbery and continue working to have this bill move through the legislative process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dave Transue.
