Community Banker Alert

Subject: Additional Information for Contacts to Legislators - SALES TAX ON BANKING
Date: January 11, 2006
As you know, PACB has been working diligently, along with other business, professional and non-profit groups, to defeat the proposals that would expand the state sales tax to banking and other professional services and goods.
Many members have responded to our various alerts on this important issue but a number have not.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for every member to contact your State Senators and House members in opposition to Senate Bill 854 as passed by the House, and any other proposal that would impose the sales tax on community banking and our customers.
So that you know how your House member(s) voted on the key amendment to Senate Bill 854 (Scavello), we have attached the roll call vote and an explanation at the bottom on how to interpret the vote.
We would suggest your messages be tailored as outlined in the following attached sample letters, written for your use according to how your House member(s) voted on the Scavello amendment, and a separate letter that should be sent to your Senator(s).
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact Dave Transue or me.
Your support on this issue is greatly appreciated.
